Bars, Restaurants, Nightclubs
Traveling through Western Pennsylvania along Interstate 80 can seem like you've somehow left civilization, and gotten lost in some sort of twilight zone...long stretches of milepost markers and towns and villages at exits that often seem to lead to nowhere. There is life out there - granted, it can seem to be a strange life-form, these native Pennsylvanians, however, you can still find a decent place to eat, get a couple of drinks and even spend the night. Here's one place you might otherwise breeze right by: DuBois, Pennsylvania. There are two exits that claim to lead to DuBois, Pennsylvania off I-80, and you can take either one. Just be sure to follow the signs that point to DuBois. Drive. Briefly you may be disoriented, but keep driving you will soon find yourself in DuBois proper. On the assumption that you are reading this at home, and have the luxury of Googling, here's some names to look for: Great Places to drink and relax: East Side Sports Bar; Coyote Joe's; Julio's. There's a nice quiet bar at the Clarion Inn - good food at the restaurant there, too. For some good eats: Fort Worth Restaurant; Luigi's; DuBois Diner; Julio's; Bamboo Garden; Frank's Pizza; Giancarlo's Pizza; Napoli's Pizza. Logan's Quick Lunch has some great hot dogs...grab some candy and ice cream at Hockman's Candies. Bars, with decent food: Julio's, Coyote Joe's, Luigi's, The Hitching Post, East Side Sports Bar. These are all locally owned establishments, that are not your homogenized Corporate fare...we do have that of course - and you'll drive past all that on the way to one of these local eateries. You'll find McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Arby's, Subway, Quizno's, KFC, Wendy's, plus Ruby Tuesdays, Perkins, Eat n Park, Red Lobster, Italian Oven, Valley Dairy in the Mall, and of course Pizza Hut. Mexican: Tacamba's ("authentic" as opposed to the Taco Bell type of "mexican" food) There are a number of Chinese Restaurants, too. Hot Wings? Julio's, Hitching Post, Super Sub and Six Pack, Coyote's... The Super Sub and Six Pack shop is a great place for Subs, Salads, Wings, Fries, and of course 6-packs of your favorite 'legal' beverages. You can order up some sandwiches and burgers and fries and such at Sheetz, while you fill your gas tank - great coffee at Sheetz, including a coffee bar - decently maintained restrooms, too. Or you could choose Snappy's for food and a fill-up, though not quite as elaborate as Sheetz. Google this stuff, and find directions. Oh, and one more thing...the absolute best maps I have found are multimap.com. If you get lost in DuBois, remember: this is a small town, and most people in town don't know the names of the roads and streets. But everyone knows mostly where everything of importance is located. Just take a few notes when we tell you to go through 3 lights, and then turn left at the only 4 lane in town ("Liberty Boulevard")...equip yourself with a pencil and something to write on - always a good idea. ('m surely forgetting someplace that should be on this list, and for that I apologize!) Enjoy your time here. By the way, the bars around here have some sort of music playing most nights, either DJ's, bands on weekends, or if you're here on Wednesday night stop by the East Side and check out Matt Day - one of the most talented solos you'll find anywhere. I'll see you at the bar... |
